Once we got to Rhodes, our first order of the day was to pick up extra chain that we ordered. When we bought the boat, we did not realize that she came with only 20 meters of anchor chain which is not enough for some of the deeper bays we wanted to travel to. We stopped by Rhodes marina and got the chain loaded into the boat.
Then it was time to explore the island and the well-preserved medieval architecture of Rhodes all town. By far the most impressive was the palace of Grand Master of Knights of Rhodes aka Knights Hospitaller and cobble stone street of Knights leading to it. The surrounding city is full of narrow streets that wind and meander around into dead ends and shaded alleys. We came back the next day and walked the pathways around crenelated fortifications and city walls. Despite being full of vendors catering to tourists, the Old town of Rhodes still feels authentic and contemporary probably due to its proximity to new parts of town occupied by locals.
We provisioned here because we were running low on food. Had to go to several different stores to find all the necessary items at reasonable prices. We are surprised to find out that produce selection is not super huge and fruits and vegetables just don’t lust long despite the refrigeration.
