Hull Yeah!

After an incredible 2025 season, casually sailing across the Med (our track), we’re looking to make 2026 a connected set of multihull races.

No surprise, I’ve found lots of monohull races, and several pro-ish high-performance races, but I haven’t seen many “cruising” or “performance cruising” races to compete in. Here’s the research I’ve found thus far, and what we could consider.

Most Likely Races

• CNSM Races (Caorle, Italy)
  1 weekend race, then a race week at the beginning of the season
  The previous entries were (Dragonfly 920E, Corsair 28EC, Farrier F9R), quite different than an Excess 14. However, we’ve been encouraged to join and are hoping other cruising catamarans join. It’s an awesome way to start the season
  2026 NOR and details will be posted in February
  • LA DUECENTO  (Caorle, Italy: May 1 – 3 )
    • Must have a MOCRA certificate
    • ~200m offshore course
    • 2025 Sailing Instructions
  • LA CINQUECENTO   (Caorle, Italy: May 31 – June 6)
    • Must have a MOCRA certificate
    • ~200m offshore course ~500m offshore
    • 2025 Sailing Instructions
• International Aegean Sailing Rally (Aegean: July 19-28)
  • The 2025 NOR route: Athens –> Siros –> Lipsi –> Siros
  • The organizers have said they will be adding a multihull class.
    They will need 3 participants, and we will be one of them. We just need two other boats to register.

• Rolex Middle Sea Race (Malta: October 17-21 ?)
  • ~600nm Course
  • I was encouraged by the race officials.
  • We’ll need to decide if we take on this race, or the Mamaris International RaceWeek
  • Awaiting NOR
  • Requires a MOCRA rating of 1.1 or greater, but they are likely considering opening it up
• Marmaris International RaceWeek (Marmaris: October 24-31)

  • Conflicts with the Rolex Middle Sea Race – need to decide which to participate in
  • Response: The Marmaris International Race Week (MIRW). may be opened for Open Multihulls if there are enough boat entries.

Researching

• Palermo Montecarlo Race – (Sicily to Monaco: August 18-23)
  • Has a multihull class: NOR
  • May have a personal scheduling conflict

Not Doing

• 200 Millas A2 (March 1-7)
  • No multihull class
• CNSM: LA OTTANTA  (April 11-12)
  • Too early to arrive from Cyprus.
• Tre Golfi Sailing Week ORC World Championships (Sorrento: May 5-14)
  • No multihull class
• Skradin Cup Regatta 2026 (Croatia: May 9-16)
  • Limited to Istion charter boats
• Tre Golfi Multihull Trophy 2026 (Sorento, Italy: May 22-28)
  • One long-distance race of approximately 150 nm starting from Naples
  • Four days of inshore races around the islands of the bay of Naples, starting in the vicinity of Sorrento
  • Requires ORCmh, and we’re currently pursuing MOCRA.
  • Our season will start with the CNSM Races, which is too far to make it back for this race.
• Loro Piana Giraglia Rolex Cup (Saint-Tropez to Giraglia Island: June 13-20)
  • No multihull class
• Argentario Sailing Week (Porto Santo Stefano, Western Italy: June 24-28)
  • No multihull class
• Rolex Aegean 600 – 2026 (Aegean: July 5-11)
  • An aggressive race with sustained winds of 45kts, into the wind
  • Going to pass this year, and may reconsider after this season
• MULTI 2000 – La Drheam-Cup (Cherbourg, France: July 9-18)
  • Outside our Med sailing plan
• Copa del Rey MAPFRE (August 1-8)
  • No multihull class
• Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez (September 26 to October 4)

• Multihull Cup | Mediterranean Regatta (Mallorca: Sept 25-27)
  • Looks like a blast, but they only accept >50′ / 15m catamarans
• CNSM LA CINQUANTA  (October 24 – 25)
  • will skip this for the Roles Middle Sea Race
• Catamarans Cup (Aegean: October 24-31)
  • Limited to charter boats with the Istion charter fleet
• Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) (Several races throughout the season)

Multihull Ratings

There are a few organizations that provide Multihull ratings/handicapping. To qualify for many races, we’d likely need a rating. These groups also list several races, but unfortunately, they don’t seem to apply to our sailing plans.

  • There are currently two other Excess 14’s MOCRA-certified
  • The Dogz House (Excess 14) MOCRA Rating: 1.039 in 2025
    • Gary was a great source of feedback from racing his Excess 14
  • Tiyani (Excess 14) MOCRA Rating: 1.032 in 2024
